About Morten Buskop

Morten Buskop was born on June 12th 1967 in Norway. 

He resides in Jutland in the western part of Denmark and is married to Iben Hjorth. The pair live with their son Christian at Stutteri Hjortebo, the leading stud farm in Scandinavia for a number of years.

Morten is a permit holder and owner/breeder of thoroughbred horses in Scandinavia, France and in the UK.

Throughout his career inside the industry, he has gained a wide range of experience all the way from representing Norway in the Fegentri World Championships to working alongside leading Scandinavian trainers as well as handlers in the UK and USA.

His career began around the stables at Øvrevoll, Norways only thoroughbred racecourse, riding out for Terje Dahl, Arnfinn Lund and Wido Neuroth. Later, Morten worked for Clive Brittain and Ferdy Murphy in the UK, and he became assistant trainer for Frank Seremba in Florida.

Today Morten is a leading Scandinavian bloodstock agent representing the French sales agency ARQANA in Deauville.

In later years, Morten’s primary focus has been on sourcing quality Flat horses on the French bloodstock scene. Some of his best purchases over the years include:

Morten Buskop also bought and trained Champion jumper PERCUSSIONIST, who subsequently won the American Grand National (Grade 1); as well as GENERAL LEDGER, winner of the Swedish Champion Hurdle in 2009, before finishing 2nd in the American Grand National; SAME DIFFERENCE, a winner at the Cheltenham Festival for Nigel Twiston-Davies; the promising HAUTE ESTIME, a Listed Winner and Grade 1 placed hurdler and BIALCO, a multiple winner over hurdles, both for Lucinda Russell.

Also to be mentioned is the AQPS chaser NEPTUNE JOLY, who won the Swedish Grand National in 2007.

Furthermore, Morten is Stallion Manager for APPEL AU MAITRE (Starborough), Scandinavia’s leading Sire standing at Stutteri Hjortebo, and Racing Manager for Havemanns ApS, co-owner of multiple Breeders’ Series winner GOOD FORTUNE.
